When it comes to ingredients that help sustain a healthy lifestyle, nature is most often the best source. That’s why Kyäni uses nature-based ingredients as the foundation of our innovative health supplements.
For millennia, people from around the world have used different fruits, roots, fungi, vegetables, and seeds to support overall health. One such natural source that features a multitude of benefits is grape seed extract. Instead of waiting to hear about it through the grapevine, enjoy this special spotlight all about this amazing ingredient.
What Is Grape Seed Extract?
Grape seed extract is a natural element derived from red grape seeds by cold pressing or steam-distilling these seeds. Kyäni’s grape seed extract, however, comes from a proprietary and innovative water-based membrane extraction method that yields a low level of monomers (what you don’t want) and a highly-polymerized oligomeric proanthocyanidin (OPC) content of at least 85% (what you DO want).
OPCs are a class of polyphenols found in certain plants, like pine, chestnut, blueberry and cypress, and at particularly high concentrations in the grapes of Vitis vinifera L. OPCs were called into question in regard to the interpretation of the so-called “French paradox”, according to which the French people – even if they habitually eat food considered atherogenic (plaque causing) – are relatively more protected than expected in consideration of their nutritional habits, given that they do not easily give up wine. This “paradox” has prompted several studies which, as a whole, have contributed to identifying the undisputable protective effect of OPCs and support of a healthy cardiovascular system, as well as cognitive function and blood sugar balance.
Grape Seed Extract Benefits
Grape seed extract has many valuable benefits, from cell and immune support to circulation and heart health. Along with high levels of antioxidants, grape seed extract is also packed with vitamin C, vitamin E, and linoleic acid, which support cellular and immune system health. Even more, this versatile nutrient has also shown to support healthy circulation and blood pressure.
How to Add Grape Seed Extract to Your Diet
Grape seed extract is only available through a single food source — grapes. As much as you may love grapes, it’s difficult to experience grape seed extract’s health benefits through eating these juicy little fruits alone, as it would require consuming large amounts each day. Even for the grape-obsessed among us, eating too many grapes would actually have downsides to our health. Grapes contain high levels of fructose, which can lead to fat buildup and an unhealthy weight.
So, how can you enjoy the benefits of grape seed extract without overdoing it on the fructose? Queue supplements. And as always, we have the perfect suggestion.
