Ingredient Spotlight: Tocotrienol Ingredient Spotlight: Tocotrienol

February is Heart Month in the U.S. and Canada, a campaign that raises awareness for the importance of cardiovascular health. In honor of Heart Month, we’re excited to feature a month of heart-health focused spotlights.

This week’s spotlight highlights a special ingredient that promotes a healthy heart: Tocotrienol.

What is Tocotrienol?

Tocotrienols are compounds found in vitamin E that contain antioxidant properties. While vitamin E has often been associated with its other compound, tocopherols, tocotrienols were discovered in recent decades and found to make up a significant portion of vitamin E as well.

Tocotrienol Benefits

Vitamin E is known for its antioxidant properties that help neutralize free radicals in the body. Specifically, tocotrienol supports cardiovascular health, healthy cholesterol levels, and even gastrointestinal health. It has also been shown to support cognitive health, bone health, and hair skin, and nail health.

Where to Get Tocotrienols

There are several foods that are rich in vitamin E and, therefore, tocotrienols. These include:

  • Grains: Cereal, oat bran, rice bran, rye, and barley
  • Oils: Palm oil, grapefruit seed oil
  • Vegetables: Sweet potatoes, greens (kale, spinach, etc.)
  • Other: Hazelnuts, some cheeses

Another great way to get your regular dose of heart-supporting tocotrienols is through nutritional supplements like Kyäni Sunset®. Sunset is a proprietary nutrient blend that supports essential health systems, including helping maintain healthy cholesterol and blood sugar levels and supporting cardiovascular health.

In addition to tocotrienols, Sunset contains other lipid-soluble nutrients (vitamins A, D, and E), omega-3 fatty acids, and astaxanthin. These premium ingredients also support cognitive function, immune health, and cell membranes, along with promoting healthy joints, hair, skin, and nails.

Stay tuned for more heart health tips all month long!
